One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich

1970 – Røros

Black-and-white still of prisoners in winter clothing at a Soviet labor camp.

One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich

Based on Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn’s novel of the same name, this biographical drama follows a prisoner enduring daily life in a brutal Siberian labor camp, where he has been sentenced to ten long years. The story focuses on survival, dignity, and the small human victories found within an unforgiving system.

Norway’s Røros was used to evoke the harsh, remote feel of a Siberian camp environment. Its winter conditions and rugged, historic surroundings provide a convincing sense of isolation and cold realism, supporting the film’s stark atmosphere and period authenticity.
