Filming in Svalbard

Svalbard is a remote Arctic filming destination with striking landscapes of glaciers, polar deserts and dramatic mountains. The archipelago experiences unique light conditions, from endless summer daylight to total winter darkness, creating distinctive atmospheres for film productions. Longyearbyen, the main settlement, provides an international airport, hospital, university, cinema, hotels and restaurants, supporting Arctic filming projects. Recent productions include Superman (2025) and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.

Arctic Film Norway serves as the regional film commission offering production guidance adapted to Arctic conditions. Experienced crews and local services make Svalbard a practical and reliable destination for professional Arctic film productions and challenging landscape projects.
