Filming in Central Norway

Central Norway provides diverse filming landscapes, including rugged coastlines, rolling farmland, deep forests, mountain plateaus and remote wilderness areas. Urban and historic locations such as Trondheim’s city centre, the UNESCO-listed mining town of Røros, the red geological formations of Leka, and Frøya’s coastline provide varied visual backdrops. Productions such as Netflix’s Billionaire Island, Troll 2 and Home for Christmas have filmed here.

The Midgard Film Commission provides production guidance, while Midtnorsk Film Centre and Filminvest offer financing, and Filminvest also providing investment support. Reliable winter conditions, experienced crews, infrastructure, accommodation and technical services make Central Norway a practical and flexible location for Norwegian film productions and regional filming projects.
