Telemark
Telemark is situated in the centre of Southern Norway, reaching from the beautiful Skagerrak coast to the Hardangervidda national park where reindeers roam. Characteristic for the county is contrast and variety: wild mountains, peaceful rural landscape, quite number of ancient buildings - including the characteristic stave churches, a unique inland waterway and and beautiful coastal park, cities with the most of service and facilites and areas with heavy industry. The highest peak is famous Gaustadtoppen, 1883 meters above sea level. The Telemark Canal cuts a 100 km. long waterway into the heart of the county to Dalen, and the locks lift passengers on the sightseeing boats up to 100 meters above sea level. Skiing, mountain hiking, sports fishing and hunting are among the favourite activities of inhabitants and visitors. The county is also a no.1 in production of hydroelectric power, with several big power plants.
