Hedmark County has a diversified nature - from arable land to woodland and airy mountain plateaus. Hedmark is the country's largest county with respect to agriculture and forestry, the third largest in area, and covers 8.5% of the area of mainland Norway.

Hedmark's population is widely spread. About half of the inhabitants live in the four municipalities of Hedemarken. The county has 4.2% of the population of Norway, and statistics show us that Hedmark is the county with the largest percentage of inhabitants over 67 years old.
